After Sunday morning teaching series this year from the letter to the Hebrews and the letter to the Romans, we begin a new series from 1 and 2 Samuel and the book of Psalms on the life of David.
David was commended in New Testament scripture as a man after God's own heart who served God's purpose in his generation. Over the next few Sunday mornings at King's we will looking at the David story, a story given us to impart encouragement, inspire endurance and stir hope in God, a story that ultimately points us to the Great Shepherd King, the Lord Jesus Christ.
So why look at the David Story? Eugene Peterson writes: “I want to keep company with the men and women who expand and deepen our capacity to live our true, God created, Jesus saved, Spirit filled lives. David attracts attention by his vigour, his energy, his wholeheartedness, his God-heartedness.”
So let’s keep company with David over the next few weeks by coming along on a Sunday morning to listen to the talks and also taking some time to read through 1&2 Samuel and the book of Psalms for yourself. Useful commentaries you may find helpful include 1 Samuel for You, 2 Samuel for You both by Christopher Ash, and 1 Samuel by Dale Ralph Davies.
