- NEW HERE?
8th January 2017
As we begin the New Year 2017 we read (from 1 Chronicles 22:19) some wise and wonderful advice: 'Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God'.
Seeking the Lord means seeking his presence, and presence is the usual translation of the Hebrew word 'face'. In Psalm 105: 4 (ESV) we are encouraged to 'Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.'
King David set out his priority, not just for the beginning of a new year but, the aim for his whole life: 'One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him...'(Psalm 27:4). He was a man, who by God's grace, set his heart to seek the Lord, to press into his presence, to gaze upon his goodness, to be satisfied by his love. We read (Psalm 27:8) how responsive his heart was to God's promptings: 'My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, Lord I will seek!". Let's be like David, let's set our hearts (and minds) to seek the Lord.
